The 155 Podcast Interview
Key Answers from The 155 Podcast
Two city-wide priorities, and how to achieve them
- Get Hamilton’s finances back in order: after the credit-rating downgrade tied to delayed audits and risk-management gaps, advocate strict compliance with basic administrative standards in every department.
- Infrastructure that keeps pace with growth: check capacity for roads, transit, water and wastewater before approving growth, and be clear about what it costs and who pays.
Two changes to improve City services
- Respond to residents: clear service standards and better tracking so people know what happens next and council can see where standards are met.
- Coordinate infrastructure work (“dig once”): when a road is opened to replace a water main, plan other work at the same time to cut disruption and cost.
Two changes to improve quality of life in Hamilton
- Follow through on commitments already made to Indigenous communities (urban Indigenous strategy, ceremonies in public spaces, ceremonial space at Macassa Bay) and listen about what’s still needed.
- Neighbourhood safety: work with Hamilton police and residents on police presence, lighting, traffic measures and prevention where small-scale thefts and trespassing are being reported.
Two priorities for Ward 10
- Protect and improve what exists as Ward 10 grows: roads, storm sewers, safe sidewalks, traffic calming and walking routes; make development contribute fairly to the infrastructure it requires.
- Make sure LRT construction doesn’t burden Ward 10 businesses and residents: coordinate city and Metrolinx work, keep businesses accessible, and make financial supports known.
